Lending Club IPO

I have been a Lending Club investor since 2010 and been pretty happy with the platform and returns. I have about $27k currently invested.

Tomorrow, Lending Club goes public and since I am a LC investor, I was given the chance to request shares at the IPO pre-market price.  I requested the max of 350 shares @ $15 a piece.  This is my first time that I have had the opportunity to invest in an IPO pre-market so I am kinda excited to see what happens tomorrow.

The way I look at it, this is pure gambling, I don't have too much capital at risk,  and I'm looking for a big pop.  Will probaly sell before the insider shares unlock.

Hopefully the shares perform better the my oil stocks!

This was my first addition to Shell this year.  I have a full position in Shell but will start adding more if it gets below $70.

July & August 2014 Update

Time and life seem to be flying by as we come to the end of summer and the beginning of football season.  I am a huge football fan (as I type this watching the Stanford/ USC game) and my wife likes to joke that she loses her husband for 6 months during the season.

August was a good month as we celebrated my son's second birthday.  September will be extra special as we will be welcoming #2- a little girl-  into the world towards the end of the month.

$400 of new capital invested adding $7.12 to my annual dividend income.

Note: Still waiting for a pull back to put larger amounts of capital into the market.  Feel like I have been saying that for a while.  Will continue to nibble as I wait.

April & May 2014 Update

Great time of the year with summer upon us, Stanley Cup play-offs, and baseball in full swing!

The days are some of the longest of the year which means extra time hanging with my 21 month old son in the back yard playing catch and goofing around.  That is what life is all about and why I am trying my best to achieve FI.

Anyways, I didn't post an April update so wanted to give a quick summary:

February 2014 Update

I am very happy to report that I broke $12k forward annual dividend this month.  I have been looking forward to hitting this goal for quite a while.  Averaging $1000 month in dividend income has a very nice ring to it.

I started my dividend growth investment strategy in April 2010 so this has taken me a little less then 4 years to accomplish this goal.

Next milestone on my checklist will be $18k forward annual income.  I should be able to hit that by the end of 2015.

Total dividends received during the month were $798.08

FAF raises dividend 100%

Yes, that is not a typo.

First American Financial (FAF) announced earlier this week a dividend increase of 100% from $.48 to $.96.

FAF is one of the largest title companies in the US and also provides property data and risk solutions to banks, lenders, and the real estate industry.

I have been a long time shareholder (10 plus years) and this investment has been nothing short of outstanding.  I have sold shares over the years to help buy 2 cars and a wedding ring.

Since I currently own 545 shares, this will increase for annualized dividend income by $262.  Needless to say, this is the largest dividend increase I have ever received in terms of percentage and go forward dividend income.

Sharebuilder Weekly DRIP Purchases- KMR, KMI, PM, MO

Reporting my weekly purchases that went through earlier in the week on Tuesday.

This weeks purchases 2/25 (Dow 16,180):
  • $300 of KMR at $71.70. Yield 7.59%.
  • $100 of KMI at $32.44. Yield 5.06%.
  • $150 of PM at $79.92. Yield 4.71%.
  • $50 of MO at $35.86. Yield 5.35%.
$600 of new capital invested adding $37.56 to my annual dividend income.

Note: KMR and KMI both sitting at 52 weeks thanks in large part to an unfavorable Barron's article that came out on Monday. The article questioned the KMI- KMP financial relationship, said Kinder was unattractive compared to other big MLP's, and questioned Kinder's reported cash flow and true maintenance costs.  It also quoted the opinion of an analyst (who has been a vocal critic of Kinder) who said KMI was worth $20 and KMP $50.  At $20, KMI would be yielding over 8% and KMP at $50 would be close to 11%!

I believe this is all just noise and am happy to buy more shares that are now on sale.

  • $100 of MCD at $95.87. Yield 3.38%.
$500 of new capital invested adding $20.81 to my annual dividend income.

Note: First addition of new capital to my Pepsi position in almost 2 years. I liked the 15% dividend increase and the slight sell off after the revenue miss.

Buy: PM

Volatility has returned in full force to the market!

We had a nice sell off today of 326 points with the Dow closing at 15,373.  Looking back at my posts, we were at 16,555 on Jan 2.  That's a nice 1000 point drop over the past month!

PM has been hit especially hard and is down almost 7% over the past week and 14% year to date. Getting close to that 5% yield I have been looking for, I just couldn't resist adding to my PM position.

Bought 25 shares at $75.81 for a initial yield of 4.96%.

This addition brings my total share count of PM to a hair under 300 and my 12 month go forward PM dividends to $1123.

My Sharebuilder weekly purchases go through tomorrow.

Sharebuilder DRIP Purchases- PM, CVX, GE

Reporting my weekly buys that went through yesterday.

This weeks purchases 1/28 (Dow 15,929):
  • $500 of PM at $80.77. Yield 4.66%.
  • $200 of CVX at $116.46. Yield 3.43%.
  • $200 of GE at $25.54. Yield 3.45%.
$900 of new capital invested adding $37.04 to my annual dividend income.

Note: In the middle of a bit of a market sell off with another big down day today (Dow -190, closing at 15,739).  PM looking more and more attractive as it approaches 5% yield.  I will continue to add at these levels.

First addition to GE in quite a while.  GE has sold off about 10% this month and looks somewhat interesting at these levels.

KO & TGT looking interesting as well.

Tuesday, January 14, 2014

Sharebuilder DRIP Purchases- PM, MCD, CVX, KMR

Reporting my weekly buys that went through last week and today.

Last weeks purchases 1/7 (Dow 16,531):
  • $250 of PM at $84.65. Yield 4.44%.
  • $150 of KMR at $75.12. Yield 7.19%.
  • $150 of MCD at $96.73. Yield 3.35%.
$550 of new capital invested adding $26.91 to my annual dividend income.

This weeks purchases 1/14 (Dow 16,374):
  • $500 of PM at $82.47. Yield 4.56%.
  • $200 of CVX at $119.19. Yield 3.36%.
  • $100 of MCD at $95.24. Yield 3.40%.
$800 of new capital invested adding $32.91 to my annual dividend income.

Note: I have meticulously kept track of all my purchases since 2010 on an excel spreadsheet and was interested in seeing how PM's current 4.56% yield has compared to my previous PM purchases.

My initial PM purchase was on 5/14/2010 and have made total of 69 additions to the position since (includes new capital and reinvested dividends).

High Yield: 5.30% (6/4/10)
Low Yield: 3.40% (7/12/12)
Average Yield: 4.17%

Of the 69 additions, only 11 were with initial yield higher then 4.56%.

So looking back at 3.5 years of purchases, today's current initial yield is obviously attractive.

Lastly, yield on cost of the 6/4/10 high yield purchase..8.58%.
